Wylie Has Something For Everyone!

Downtown Wylie

Downtown is the place to be seen. Many events and shops in Century old buildings offer something to do for all ages. You can take care of your chores with dozens of service companies, enjoy great local food, stay in shape at fitness centers, pamper yourself at salons and spas, or sing along at the famous Wylie Opry. Volunteer Opportunities to support the vitality of Historic Downtown are available by joining the Wylie downtown Merchants Association.

Sachse Museum

The Sachse Museum is supported and maintained by the Sachse Historical Society. The Non-Profit Society established the Museum to preserve Historical objects and data that the Community Heritage may be kept alive. The Museum houses many donated items from pioneer families as well as outdoor exhibits and antique farming equipment. The Museum is located at 3033 6th St., Sachse. They are open to the Public Tuesdays 10:00am – 1pm or by request. The visit is FREE and enjoyable for all ages and you can enjoy a picnic lunch under the White Gazebo after your tour.

Lake Activities

Wylie is known as the City between 2 lakes. Sachse is also in close proximity to both lakes. Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard. Lake Ray Hubbard- Located off of I-30 in Rockwall and surrounding communities offers a host of lake- oriented activities such as fishing, sailing, boating, and water skiing. You can also take a cruise on the lake on the Seawolf catamaran, or the large double decker Harbor Lights party boat. Jet skies and boat rentals are also available on the Rowlett side of the lake. The Lake borders the Harbor which has many restaurants and shopping as well as concerts and outdoor events. Lake Lavon is a popular Texas State fishing spot located in Collin County. This lake is suitable for activities such boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, picnics, and camping. In addition to Lake Lavons amazing beauty and natural history it is an ideal getaway for those families who enjoy the great outdoors in Texas.

Community Involvement

Getting involved by volunteering is one of the fastest ways to become part of the community.

There are many organizations that contribute to the quality of life by serving the needs of others.
Below is a listing of some of those groups, as well as the type of volunteers they need.

Rotary Club of Wylie

This group is part on an International organization dedicated to the eradication of polio globally and support of their local communities. They meet Thursdays at noon at the Woodbridge Golf Club, 7400 Country Club Dr., Wylie.

Sachse Lions Club

Is part of an International Organization dedicated to the prevention of blindness and community involvement. This group is actively seeking new members who want to volunteer and help with projects for the betterment of their community. They meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Charles W. Smith Funeral Home, 2925 5th St., Sachse.

Wylie Lions Club

These groups are part of an International providing eye care and glasses for those who can not afford it. The groups are also dedicated to their local communities through many local projects throughout the year. Wylie Lions Club meets the second and fourth Thursdays at noon. The evening club meets the first and Third Thursdays from 7-8 pm. Both clubs meet at American National Bank Community Room, 301 S. Hwy 78, Wylie.

Sachse Historical Society/Museum

Members are dedicated to preserving the past for enlightenment of the present generation and recording the present for future generations. The museum is open by request or Monday – Fridays 10am – 1pm. They are located at 3033 6th Street, Sachse.
